Sleepy Phyllis

Sleepy Rosie
It was so hot that I gave the kitties new names to “celebrate” the heat wave. See if you can guess who’s who! Spicy Southwestern Chipotle is a special kitten to me. I also love Lemon and Rosemary. I can’t forget Garlic and Herb either! Funny names for sure. After sweltering for days I was calling the ladies “my three rotisserie chickens!”. It seemed only natural to find a “flavor” to match their personalities!
They really didn’t let the heat get to them. I was only worried when the power went out. A lightning strike was the cause according to my emergency radio. As the temperature rose I activated my Plan K. Before I had kittens it was called plain old Plan B. That plan just didn’t anticipate feline needs well enough. So it was back to the drawing board and Plan K was hatched. I would scoop up all the ladies and whisk them to my air-conditioned car! Or die trying since they tend to resist both scooping and whisking. As luck would have it the fans and A/C roared back to life and Plan K was put back on the shelf. No scooping or whisking on this day-but a valuable drill like this keeps me sharp.
SPOILER ALERT: I AM GIVING THE ROTISSERIE CHICKEN ANSWERS! IF YOU WANT TO GUESS STOP NOW AND WRITE DOWN YOUR ANSWERS! GOOD LUCK!

I’m not sure how many of you have heard, but the Seattle area has had record breaking heat over the past week or so and it has been MISERABLE! Last Monday: 92, Tuesday: 95, Wednesday: 105, Thursday: 94, Friday: 89. Expecting a break today of ONLY 87!
Last Sunday Matt surprised me and told me we were going to Sears and buying an Air Conditioner… for the kitties! I was SO excited knowing very well that when the kitties got something like A/C I would be able to also benefit!
Well, they really weren’t very impressed by A/C. As a matter of fact, it made too much noise and they preferred to stay in the kitchen where it was still 95 as opposed to coming into the living room where it was merely 83! After the first couple days they did discover the trade-off between noise and comfort and did finally move into the much more agreeable living room temps.
Now, the A/C unit is affectionately referred to as MBB (Marvin’s Big Brother, as you might recall, Marvin is the automatic poop box we bought that terrified them also).

Addiction aside (read previous post for details), these little ones turned a year old recently! They haven’t been in our home for a year yet, but that’s coming up soon!
Let’s take a look at some of their photo history! FUN!
How time flies!
Thank you all for sharing the past months with us. We LOVE our kitty family and so grateful to share it with you!
Hey gang! Just in case you’ve missed us lately, one of the biggest reasons is my new obsession with Twitter. It’s completely captivated me! I love how instant it is and that I ONLY have to type 140 characters or less, but yet, I can post pictures!
So, the girls get a little Twitter action sometimes too!
If you’re on twitter and would like to chase us around there too feel free to follow @LegalAdmin (that’s me!)
Here’s one of the photos I took with my BlackBerry this morning and “Tweeted” about.
Sleeping is a bit of a challenge in our household these days. The girls have a strong habit of making sure everyone knows (aka Me and Matt) that we’re to be up at or before 5AM. This doesn’t go over well with me. I’m a sleeper. I like to sleep. NOT for a long time, but just a sufficient amount of time until, let’s say, my back aches from my bladder pressing on every other organ so hard that I can’t stand it any more.
My desired bedtime is about 10PM with me waking up to go to work around 5:45-6AM (Matt hates my “snooze” button!!).
Of recent, Phyllis has decided that the best time to play with her dads and get some quiet alone time is around… 2AM. This is miserable! Not because she’s forceful (which she is), but because she’s SO darned cute! She wants to go into the “kitty cave” (sperlunking kitty that she is). Phyllis isn’t one for sleeping under the blankets but she sure LOVES going under them and exploring, then coming back out, making a tour around the bed, then back in, and so on and so forth.
It’s usually after about 15-20 minutes of this that I finally wake up and have to lock them out of the bedroom. Then at about 5AM, when Matt’s bladder gives in, back in they all come!

When they return at 5AM it’s usually Rosalie who’s the most persistent. She LOVES to purr (as we all know). So, she’s ALL over us, sitting on heads, nudging noses, wanting to peek under the covers (not a true sperlunker like Phyllis), and nose in the ears. This all the while purring with her adorable little rhythmic purr-squeek-purr-purr-squeek. Again, you can’t even be annoyed by it. She’s too darned cute to be anoying!

So, on the upside, when Renatta is in the bedroom, she’s the angel of the entire bunch! She wants to lay at the foot of the bed, never wants to cuddle, never wants to rub noses, never had an interest in sperlunking, she just likes to sleep and be close to where all the action is. HOWEVER, when she (and the others) have been locked out of the bedroom, this is where Renatta comes into their plan. I’m sure the others put her up to it! She is by far the loudest and most persistent in meowing! When she wants in, she will NOT be ignored. She will sit outside the door pretending someone has cut off her leg until someone lets her in. I have to say, it’s quite effective. Works every time with me.
